Trip Description
On this tour, we explore the Kangding, Litang and the Rarika village. About 50 kilometers hiking requires adventure seekers be physically fit. We travel across Xinduqiao; also known as the paradise of photography, drive through the Maoya grassland, and stay in Litang county; the highest part of the town overlooking the Gongga Mountain from the black rock city of Gaoersi Mountain. We experience our stay at the local guesthouses and some of the finest hotels in China throughout the entire trip.
The region of Genyen massif is home to the most revered and fascinating three holy mountains; the Genyen Mountain, the Xiaozha Holy Mountain, and the Kemailong Holy Mountain which stand respectively at 6,204 meters (20,355 ft.), 5,807 meters (19,050 ft.), and 5,780 meters (18,963 ft.), along with several snowy summits that tower up the sky. The area is an untapped scenic spot featuring magnifique beauty along with a supernatural appeal.
We travel to Quguokama, a perfect place to experience the nomadic lifestyles of the locals and explore the diverse species of flora and fauna in the area including local horses, yaks, and other species. From the Xiaozha waterfall, we hike to the old and new glacial valley temples (4,150 m./ 13,615 ft.) where lies the main temple hall along with the three treasures of the temple including a female antler, an anti-helical conch, and a 'rare' white stone.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 : Chengdu arrival
We arrive at the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, and upon arrival, our guide will drop us off at the hotel.

Day 02 : Chengdu to Kangding (2,560 m./8400 ft.)
Our journey to Kangding; the capital of the Garze Tibetan Autonomous region starts early in the morning after breakfast. Historically known as the “Tea Horse” trading center of Chinese & Tibetan region. On the way to Kanding, we visit the Hailuogou glacier park. The park boasts lots of unique geographic attractions including glaciers, virgin forests, hot spring, and wild animals. We arrive in Kanding in the evening for dinner.

Day 03 : Kangding to Litang (3,954 m./12972 ft.) – Rarika (3800 m./12467 ft.)
Today after breakfast, we drive through the Maoya grassland and over to the Tiejiangshan Yakou where we have the first glimpses of the Genie Holy mountains. The area is well known for the Genyen massif, Tibetan villages, and natural vegetation. We take our lunch in Litang and drive towards Rarika. Upon reaching the village, we can take a rest, stroll around and engage with the local community. We stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Day 04 : Rarika Village to Quguokama Trek (3800 m./12467.19 ft.)
Our first day of hiking in the Genie Mountain Area from Rarika village to Quguokama is about 13 km or approximately 7 hours. Hiking along the valley, we get breathtaking views of the Genie Main Peak, Mount Xiaozha and Mount Kemailong. Finally, we arrive at Quguokama and camp there. Quguokama lies on the foothills of the Genie Mountain and is a perfect place to experience nomadic lifestyles and observe the diverse species of flora and fauna in the region. We take snacks and fruits for lunch and dinner is prepared by the cooks at the camping site.

Day 05 : Quguokama to Xiaozha Waterfall Trek (3900 m./12795 ft.)
After breakfast, we pack our tent and start today’s trek which requires walking almost similar distance like yesterday but relatively easy. We have our lunch on the way before arriving at the Xiaozha waterfall around late afternoon and camp for the night.

Day 06 : Xiaozha Waterfall to Old Cold Valley Temple (4050 m./13287.4 ft.) - New Cold Valley Temple (3800 m./12467 ft.)
Today we trek around 6 km starting from the Xiaozha waterfall to visit the old cold valley temple and head to the new cold valley temple. It takes nearly an hour of walk. After a brief rest, we head on to visit the new cold valley temple. The route from the old to the new cold valley temple is a plain and easy one. We visit the main temple hall and witness the three treasures: a female antler, an anti-helical conch, and a rare white stone. After visiting, we walk around the temple and take rest. For dinner, we will relish on a simple noodle.

Day 07 : New Cold Valley Temple to Litang (4000 m./13123.36 ft.)
After breakfast, we head back to Litang which takes about two to three hours. After back to Litang, we get fresh along with a good rest until lunch. After lunch, we walk around the Litang county and visit the white stupa garden where we can see many locals circling the white stupa. Doing a kora; a sacred circumambulation around the stupa and making a wish is a ceremonial and holy experience.

Day 08 : Litang to Chengdu (500 m./ 1640 ft.)
After breakfast, we drive back to the Daocheng Yading airport and take a plane back to Chengdu. Upon arrival, we transfer to the hotel in Chengdu for an overnight stay.

Day 09 : Final Departure day
After our breakfast, we are dropped off to the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport for our final departure.

Accommodation
The hotels’ standards in China vary, especially in quality and availability. Our accommodation will range from deluxe hotels (4 stars) to basic guesthouses and camps during the entire trip as mentioned in the itinerary or similar. The accommodations on this tour are on a twin sharing basis, and a single supplement charge of additional USD 100 is applicable on request.
Meals
The Chinese cuisine consists of rice or noodles, usually served with a variety of curries between meat and fish, along with a dish of vegetables, salads, soup, and condiments. Chinese cuisine ranges from moderately spicy to extreme. Meals & drinks at international hotels are considerably expensive. There are many good local restaurants with almost the same quality of food and hygiene as hotels but at reasonable prices. We, however, do not recommend small roadside restaurants, as it can be risky for health.
