The Lemosho route, being one of the newer routes is a superb route of choice for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It grants panoramic vista on various sides of the Kilimanjaro and is considered to be the most scenic of the trails leading to the summit. The route is ideal for our climb as it has a perfect balance of beautiful scenery, less crowd, and a high summit success rate. Thus, the Lemosho route is highly recommended for the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
This route begins from Londorossi Gate and approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west. The route offers a relatively flat hike crossing the Shira plateau from west to east as climbers trek through the rainforest to the Shira ridge. Crowds are relatively low until joining the Machame route near the Lava Tower. The route then traverses underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. The descent is made via the Mweka route.

Overnight in Moshi. After a one and half hour drive from Moshi, we arrive at the Londorossi Gate. The day hike is relatively easy with 3-4 hours climbing up to the Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Overnight in Mti Mkumbwa.Today we walk through the heather forest for a few hours and reach the edge of the Shira Caldera. Our destination is the scenic Shira One Camp.
Overnight in Shira One Camp.We hike gently across the Shira Plateau with possible side trips to the Shira Cathedral. We camp at the first high camp of the Shira Two Camp.
Overnight in Shira Two Camp. The real climb to the Kilimanjaro begins today. The main feature is a slow ascent to the Lava Camp. We then descend to the beautiful Barranco Camp. This approach is the Climb-High-Sleep-Low principal for altitude adjustment.
Overnight in Barranco Hut.We continue around the southern circuit train after a climb of the Great Barranco Wall until we reach the scenic location of Karanga Camp.
Overnight in Karanga Valley. The trail from Karanga to Barafu leads us to the desolate high desert of the Kilimanjaro. The Barafu Camp is a basic camp geared towards the business of reaching the summit. The day involves careful adjustments to altitude. The elements of mother nature might be faced as we become exposed to the crosswinds at the Barafu Ridge (16,000ft./4870mts.) We aim to dine and retire earlier on this day as we rise by midnight to start the trek to the summit.
Overnight in Barafu Hut.We set off by 1 a.m. at the latest to reach the Stella Point by dawn. We hike up the scree slopes to the rim where we continue around this to reach the summit - Uhuru Peak (5985 meters). We take our time to enjoy the incredible peaceful view before our descent. We head back towards the Millennium Camp down to 3730 meters. The whole day, including ascent and descent, is tough and can be up to 12 to 15 hours of trekking. It takes mental preparation and support. It's a considerable achievement.
Overnight at Mweka Camp.We continue our descent across the moorland towards the Mweka Gate where our enjoyable trekking experience comes to an end. However, this day is still reasonably strenuous because of the environment which can be wet as we will be returning through the rainforest. Some walkers can also find themselves going slow during the descent. We should be aiming for 5 to 6 hours. Finally, we are transported to our accommodation for celebration and relaxation before a well-deserved sleep.
Overnight in Moshi. After breakfast at the hotel, we are transferred to the Kilimanjaro International Airport for our final departing flight.
